REU and CHANGE are working together to achieve a step change in the quality of parenting support available to black and minority ethnic and other parents with learning disabilities in Leeds. We will be using and adapting the well established Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities parent programme (SFSC) to help us do this. Our trained facilitators will include parents with learning disabilities in Leeds. There will be dissemination of good practice to agencies in Leeds and the parenting sector.
In detail we will:
- Work with a diverse group of parents with learning disabilities to review the existing curriculum and materials and carry out initial revision.
- Deliver the programme to two sets of black and minority ethnic parents from a range of communities in Leeds.
- Use this experience to complete the revision of the curriculum and course materials.
- Train of up to 20 individuals (including parents with learning disabilities) to deliver the revised programme.
- Use the revised program with at least two new sets of parents in Leeds
- Provide support and supervision to other organisations in delivering the program
- Present the good practice at regional and national events
- Produce on line and paper resources for others in the parenting sector
