Out Parenting Fund Families in Action project has the following objectives:
- To maximise benefit of services for families with children who have high support needs, learning difficulties and other profound disabilities.
- To raise their awareness of other services such as Sure Start; Connexions; FSU; Mencap; Barnardo's projects focusing specifically on parenting skills and specific initiatives on working with parents and children with dual heritage and refugee families.
- To facilitate person-centred planning with families who wish to do so; bringing together a circle of support; using tools such as PATH, Essential Lifestyle Planning, MAP or Personal futures Planning; and supporting them to carry out an agreed action plan.
- To enable control of their lives and services by raising their knowledge and confidence to participate in decision making structures such as local area forums as school governors, and on strategic boards such as Leeds Parenting Board for Learning Disabilities. Services frequently do not involve families as a whole and often individual members miss out.
This project will provide one-to-one holistic support to families. Families in Action will work with a total of 25 families in five area-based groups. Each family will be supported to engage within their community and the city-wide services relevant to their needs as identified in their Action Plan. A Project Advisory Group will be formed, comprising of two representatives from each group. It will share local knowledge, monitor progress and plan activities.
