Parentline Plus provides a holistic range of support for parents recognising that parents need and make use of differing amounts of support at different stages. Our intensive outreach provision enables us to reach the more isolated of parents in a variety of ways. For some parents a conversation with an outreach worker, provision of leaflets and information about our Helpline is sufficient. Other parents will need more intensive personalised support individually or in groups.
Using the Parenting Fund we will undertake outreach work and deliver the Parentline Plus materials and courses either to groups or to individuals for the area of New Addington / Fieldway in Croydon. We will work with the young people as well - separately but concurrently using a partner agency - Croydon Mediation - with the aim to link back in with the parents reached in our groups or individually.
We expect to contribute to a reduction in anti social behaviour by working with parents of teenagers and building their self esteem and negotiation skills. This in turn will better enable them to agree boundaries and set limits with their teenagers. We will work with parents of preteens (particularly year 6 children going to secondary school) to build strategies within families so that parents and children can reach mutual agreements on behaviour as a key preventative measure. Working with the young people themselves will reinforce this preventative objective.
We are spending the first 6 months of this project creating and consolidating contacts in order to establish an integrated programme of support for parents of teens and pre teens, particularly from those from schools we have not yet been active in.This work will entail extensive outreach as we build relationships with the most vulnerable families to win their trust leading to ongoing commitment to the services they are offered.
