Parentline Plus provides a holistic and non stigmatising range of support for parents recognising that they need and different support at different stages. Our intensive outreach provision enables us to reach more isolated parents in a variety of ways. For some it is a conversation with an outreach worker, provision of leaflets and information about our Helpline is sufficient. Others will need more intensive personalised support individually or in groups. Over the course of the project we will provide a mix of locally based support reinforced by local media work and our national Helpline.
Building on Round 1 our flexible programme of face to face support is aimed at vulnerable, disadvantaged and hard to reach parents. We are using our tried and tested parent support programme 'Parents Together' to meet the needs of particular groups of parents by reducing isolation and enhancing parenting skills. Activities include communication with children that focuses on young fathers, especially those from BME communities. We are working with two local Sure Start programmes, NACRO and a range of grass roots community groups as a way of reaching more parents. Included will be a programme of outreach, workshops, groups and individual support for teenaged parents in partnership with NACRO, the Young Mums to be course and Peterborough City Council's Teenage Health Visitors.
We will continue to work with prisoners' / ex-prisoners' families in Peterborough providing parenting support for couple's pre and post release to strengthen family ties and increase capacity for effective parenting.
