Round 2

» Back to Projects

Our aim is to enable parents to bring up children to become emotionally healthy and fulfilled adults, able to take a full and active part in the life of their community. In Round 2 we are providing a range of local parenting support services (supported by our national services) that will provide parents in Liverpool with a range of support that works for them and their families. We will also continue and expand and our work within Sure Start and Children's Centers. In more detail we will:

  • Develop and expand our work with extended schools building on a successful project piloted on the Wirral called "Keeping Children Safe". It provides courses for parents of primary school children and enables them to talk about sex, relationships and substance misuse and is already being provided in St Peters and St Paul's RC Primary School. We have developed links with Liverpool Teenage Pregnancy Unit and will be delivering the 'Time to Talk' programme for helping parents find ways to talk to their children about sex and relationships.
  • Recruit, train and deploy a pool of local volunteers who can work on reaching and befriending to 'hard to reach' parents in the area i.e. refugees, asylum seekers, lone parents, young parents, fathers, parents with disabilities or parents with children with disabilities. We expect to develop our work with the BME communities, focusing on wards which have a high ethnic profile i.e. Picton 22.5%, Princess Park 37.5%, Liverpool central 25.1%, Kensington and Fairfield 13.3%.
  • Build the capacity of the sector, leading and informing joint work with other parenting organisations and with police, social services and education professionals. We will continue to work with Merseyside Expanding Horizons (MEH) to influence, develop and promote inclusion and encourage best practice with a variety of agencies.
  • Deliver outreach and open access provisions, a progression route and prevention strategy for all parents within Liverpool and its surrounding areas.

We want to shape non stigmatizing services delivered by parents for parents, and to promote the idea that seeking help is normal, and a positive step for parents. Our services aim to reduce anti social behavior, working within the context of the respect agenda by helping parents build confidence and increased self esteem. Our programmes enhance parents' communication and help them to negotiate boundaries and solutions that work for their family.
