Parentline Plus provides a holistic range of support for parents. We recognise that parents need and make use of differing amounts of support at different stages. Our outreach work enables us to reach more isolated parents in a variety of ways. For some parents a conversation with an outreach worker, provision of leaflets and information about our Helpline is sufficient. Other parents will need more intensive individual support or in groups. We aim to reach 5,200 parents in Bristol over the life of the project by providing a mix of locally based support reinforced by local media work which gets the message through to many more parents, together with the national offer of our Helpline. We will use a combination of outreach work, workshops, courses and peer support to achieve this. Our goal is to make parenting support a key feature of interagency family work by:
- providing access to parenting education for parents of older children caught up in the criminal justice system
- facilitating parent to parent skill sharing and home visits
- providing outreach within youth justice courts
- offering regular one to one reviews and peer mentor support
- Offering support to pregnant drug users and drug using parents with young children. This should lead to these people taking up mainstream services.
- Sharing skills and training with BME youth projects, particularly Right Track.
- parenting education for foster and adoptive parents of older children, around change and loss
- capacity building within the sector to lead and inform joint work with other parenting organisations and with police, social services and education professionals
- developing expertise within parent facilitator team
- offering vulnerable parents rolling support from the same facilitator(s)
- developing parent mentors and progression routes to acknowledge change and success for the people we support
The ultimate aim of all our work is to help parents bring up emotionally healthy adults able to live happy and fulfilling lives, playing a positive role in the life of their community.
