The Great Yarmouth Positive Parenting Project supports a 'whole family approach' to strengthening couple relationships and parenting skills while promoting social inclusion. We are offering the 'Positive Steps Programme' (PSP) for individuals and groups. Emphasis is placed on equipping and enabling parents to become co-facilitators once the full training programme is in place. The programme draws on social learning, cognitive behaviour, developmental theory, and research into risk factors associated with the development of social and behavioural problems in children. It will complement our children's support work (Norfolk Children's Fund funded).
Our target groups are families in crisis and parents of school aged children, especially those experiencing high levels of conflict or who have emerging mental health issues. Many of these families will have had difficulty in engaging with statutory services. The aim is to promote social inclusion by strengthening parents' ability to make positive contributions to their lives and to contribute to lower school exclusion levels across the area.
