The Round 2 Parenting Fund grant extends the use of Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) in the project. Video Interaction Guidance allows service users to improve their positive communication and parenting skills. It is a well-established method with formal training and accreditation. It is used in many areas of the country to improve adult/child interactions. As far as we are aware, we are the first project to use this method to address anti social behaviour. Service users are filmed interacting with another family member and extracts are chosen to illustrate positive interaction. These clips are shown to the service users who are encouraged to identify their own positive communication. Parents who lack confidence and are hard to engage find this method positive and empowering and it is highly effective for achieving change with our service users. At present, the Senior Project Worker is the only member of staff trained in the technique. Our Parenting Fund grant, will allow the project to recruit staff to provide housing related support, enabling existing staff to train in VIG, so that we can deliver VIG to more families.
