We provide advice, support and information for women who have experienced domestic violence to help with:
- Coping strategies when family relationships are under stress
- Dealing with the impact of domestic violence on parenting ability
- Supporting in dealing with the impact of domestic violence on their children's behaviour
Our full time parenting worker works with families in Great Yarmouth on a one to one, drop in and group basis by:
- Providing support to parents in liaising with schools, regarding bullying, extra support with schoolwork, special needs, and other areas of concern
- Offering support in the issues that come out of domestic violence
- Assisting parents in talking to children about keeping 'safe'
- Liaising with social workers regarding child protection issues
- Providing key-work sessions to allow the parents to talk about issues and concerns that are important to their child and help them to build positive relationships
- Providing support on practical parenting issues such as dealing with conflict, different ways to discipline your children/young people other than smacking, providing play and play and positive reward
- Liaising with other parenting organisations to implement joint working where possible and to ensure continuing support if necessary once specialist support ends (e.g. Education excellence cluster, Ormiston Trust, Home Start, Family Support Team)
