Using our two full time Parental Support Workers (female and male) we will continue and develop our Round 1 work to provide support to Muslims (largely from Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian ethnicity) who have significant difficulty in their role as parents. This will include parents of disabled children, parents of children with poor health, mental health issues, challenging behaviour or poor academic achievement. Additionally parents who are themselves disabled, experiencing drug or alcohol abuse, poor health and/or mental health issues will be supported. Each Parental Support Worker will support a caseload through home visits, one to one sessions and small group work. Parents will be supported for varying lengths of time depending on their individual needs. Strong links will be developed with local statutory and voluntary services and the Parent Support Worker will act as an advocate, arranging appointments and accompanying parents with limited English skills. The project aims to:
- Increase parents' confidence and skills in supporting their children
- Reduce the number of children placed on the Child Protection Register
- Build more cohesive families
- Enhance educational attainment
- Further enhance support for parents and children with disabilities or special needs in the mosques and madrasah environment
- Preventative work with Muslim teenage parents
- Deliver positive parenting programmes to Muslim parents
- Further enhance work with fathers, families of older children and parents with special needs.
