We are using the Round 2 grant to continue and develop our work in support of Black and minority ethnic families in eastern Leicester. Our aim is to meet the cultural needs of BME families, particularly those of south Asian origin while also supporting newly arrived asylum seekers in Leicester. To do this we provide:
- a coordinator for Black and Minority Ethnic families
- home visiting by volunteers
- parenting and family support designed to meet the needs of asylum seekers
- a family support group for BME and dual heritage women in partnership with the new Belgrave Sure Start children's centre (7 families supported at any one time)
- a multicultural family group in Crown Hills for BME families supported in partnership with Thurnby Lodge Sure Start Children's Centre
- bilingual preparation courses for volunteers in English and Hindi (two courses per year to train 24 volunteers per year)
