Chrysalis Manchester is a community-based charity providing a variety of Family Support services, including group work, counselling, créche support and drop-in facilities. Our aim is to provide culturally sensitive services to local parents and families. We were established in 1994.
Part of our work is to run Webster-Stratton Parent Survival Courses for parents and we are using the Parenting Fund to roll these out in the Manchester area. The aim of the project is to equip parents with the skills and confidence to develop coping strategies and to be positive role models for their children, so encouraging independence.
The Parent Survival courses will give parents an opportunity to share experiences with other parents, learn new skills and build friendships and support networks. Participants will explore their own parenting experiences, and learn how to approach their children's behaviour positively thus enhancing family life. The result should be an increase in parents' and children's confidence and self-esteem.
There will be an opportunity for a number of parents, having gained skills and experience, to train as facilitators to deliver future courses locally to other parents.
