The Parenting Fund grant is to extend the range and depth of our direct services to parents with mental health problems who are caring for young children by developing awareness of and support for adult couple relationships. We want to do this by:
- Training the facilitators of our groups for postnatal depressed mothers and parenting workshops to be alert to relationship problems these parents may be having with their partners
- Running short course parenting workshops for couples with young children thus mobilising the resources in their partnerships to support them as parents
- Training counsellors, telephone helpline and drop-in workers who are seeing parents on their own to be alert to the influence of the adult couple relationship upon their capacities to be parents
- Providing an off site postnatal depression group.
In order to reach our target population we will:
- Design and print publicity materials in user languages for distribution through health, education and social care outlets, and to alert referring practitioners to the initiative we are taking
- Prepare for and sustain the enlargement of our services through training and workforce development
- Recruit the services of a relationship counsellor to co-facilitate groups and provide relationship counselling
To help us do this we are inviting Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships (TCCR) to act as consultant in promoting, preparing for, providing, evaluating and disseminating our work.
