We are to continue and develop the successful Speakeasy programme for parents and carers. The Open College Network (OCN) accredited Speakeasy course has been running in a number of centres in England since May 2002 with 2000 parents completing the course to date. Speakeasy provides parents with education, information resources and support to enable them to take on the role of sex educators and provide sex education in the home. In a group setting, parents develop their own knowledge and skills in relation to sexual health. Speakeasy is particularly targeted in areas of multiple deprivation and high teenage pregnancy rates. The ultimate aim of this work is to change the climate around sex and relationship education in the home.
