The Well Family service will offer support to parents and children in need in the Stoke and Baylis area of Slough via a team of Family Support Coordinator. The service will be offered mainly in people's own homes through a home visiting service, but also in local community venues, i.e. Children's Centre and youth centre. It will work with disadvantaged families where parents are experiencing difficulties with parenting, domestic violence, substance misuse, families where there are children with special needs, and where there are language barriers. The service will include:
- Individual support work. This may be practical or emotional and will include advocacy work and information and advice on a wide range of issues (e.g. housing, welfare rights, debt and brief, solution focussed counselling).
- Information and signposting to other appropriate, specialist services available locally and help with accessing them (including accompanying the parent).
- Group work i.e. domestic violence support group, the Freedom programme, family links nurturing parenting programme (the latter will also be delivered in the mother tongue for local Asian families who cannot access the mainstream programme due to language barriers), drugs awareness and substance misuse support group to teenagers living in the area, drugs misuse support group for parents
- Consultation with other professionals/ services on the needs of parents and children and how these can be addressed
- Partnership with other agencies working in the area via the already established steering group.
