The Chinese Health Information Centre is a charity established in 1987 to provide culturally appropriate health services for the Chinese community and to provide links with the statutory services.
We are using our Parenting Fund grant to deliver a Chinese Parenting Project in Manchester. The language barrier and cultural differences mean that Chinese parents are less well served than others. We are overcoming this by developing parenting skills training and materials aimed at the local Chinese community.
The project will develop the following bilingual resources:
- a 12 Session Parenting Course Programme for Chinese parents
- a Chinese /English Parenting Skills Booklets
- parenting workshops that develop parents' understanding of children's behaviour and infants' health.
We are appointing a bilingual Family/Parenting Worker who is familiar with this area of work to develop the project for us.
