A Family Group Conference (FGC) is an empowering decision and planning process where the parents, family and child/young person formulate their own plans using information and support provided by professionals.
FGC's embrace a whole family approach. The family is defined in its broadest sense to include extended family, good friends and community networks. Parents and families are experts on their situation, and are best placed to find solutions that will work for them, given the right information from professionals. By finding their own solutions and identifying their own support, families are more likely to create sustainable plans and become reslient. The intention is also to strengthen families' relationship with support services.
We are focusing on families with older children in challenging situations. This covers: reactive behaviors to difficult situations; poor school attendance/school exclusions; anti social/risk taking behaviors; teenage pregnancy; family conflict and separation; substance misuse; inadequate parenting; mental health difficulties.
