Continuation of Volunteers for Parents Voices (VPV) project, empowering parents of disabled children by linking them with trained volunteers to negotiate services.

We are developing VPV by:

  • Recruiting an Asian family support worker to raise the profile of volunteering among Asian families
  • Help to organise regional conference for professionals sharing good practice when working with Asian families with disabled children
  • Organise a conference for Asian parents delivered in Punjabi/Urdu
  • Creating opportunities for fathers of disabled children to share experiences and coping strategies about parenting disabled children and children with special needs
  • Setting up a monthly support group for up to 15 families where children have challenging behaviour (there will be high quality play sessions alongside group work for parents)
  • Providing a counselling service for parents of disabled children by allowing them to explore issues relating to being a parent of a disabled child
