The Well Family service works with families who have a child up to the age of 18. It provides advice, support, information and advocacy to all members of the family around identified problem areas. These include couple relationship problems, parenting issues, mediation work with parents and their teenage children, parents health problems such as depression, stress and anxiety, social inclusion, children's poor behaviour, low self esteem, managing conflict, children with special needs, local services and resources, substance misuse, violence at home, bereavement, adult education and accommodation issues. We will mainly use Solution Focused Therapy. This enables the client to build on their strengths and develop their own coping strategies which they can continue to build on once the service withdraws. If we are unable to help, or are aware specialist support is available locally, we will support service users to access this service. We will continue to provide a parents' programme for parents of teenagers. In addition we will run a Strengthening Families programme with other agencies in the borough. Both encourage the development of positive family relationships which help to reduce social exclusion and isolation.
A particular need that has been identified in Great Yarmouth is for a befriending scheme to promote social inclusion. This in turn will raise people's self esteem and confidence and promote general well being. Enabling users of this programme to mix with others this will develop an external support network outside the family and provide a buffer to individuals in stressful situations.
