Contact a Family is a national charity established in 1979. We provide advice, information, support and contact with other families to the parents and families of disabled children. We are using our Parenting Fund grant to work with black and minority ethnic (BME) parents to:
- develop a face to face language support service for parents of disabled children
- train a target of 20 bilingual parent volunteers
- ensure parents' needs are communicated
- encourage BME parents have their own voice
- refer families to our new Asian Development Worker for face to face help
- develop written practical guidance
- provide information and support for parents of disabled children aged 12+
- offer workshops for parents of disabled children
- have family events
- encourage parents to raise problems and solutions with providers
- refer struggling families to our specialist family worker for support with teenagers
- develop a fact sheet with parents to encourage extended schools to meet the needs of disabled teenagers and their families
- produce information sheets for parents
