We are using the Parenting Fund to continue our work with local parents and parent groups in Manchester and to address new areas of need highlighted by parents. These are:

Support for parents of disabled older children and teenagers. We will:

  • Hold workshops on a series of topics of concern to parents such as puberty, communication, growing up and sexuality, socially acceptable behaviour, friendships and leisure, person-centred planning, direct payments, encouraging independence etc and provide regular back up written information
  • Encourage parents of disabled older children/adolescents who attend to form a support group and give us feedback for future written guidance
  • Hold family events with suitable activities for older children
  • With the parents, produce guidance for mainstream services in Manchester (such as parenting courses, extended schools and youth groups) based on parents' stories and ideas on how they and their young people could be better included.

Setting up local groups:

We will:

  • Hold a cinema event to attract more BME parents and encourage the formation of local community/ interest groups
