The Parenting Fund grant is to expand our extremely successful family support centre which provides support for families at risk of breaking up. We aim:
- To promote safe, healthy and positive family life via preventative work and a range of early intervention strategies
- To protect children and parents who are vulnerable
- To reduce/remove the likelihood of crisis situations that lead to serious family breakdown
Our objective is to enable families to manage their changing needs in the short and longer term. We are to continue to provide practical, therapeutic and educational support delivered by an expanded team with a wide range of professional skills including social work, disabilities nursing, complementary therapies, education and childcare. Each family will be offered an individual assessment and support package drawn up which includes one or more options from: mentoring; group support; counselling - for individuals, couples, children and/or families; information; advice and advocacy; parenting programs; play therapy; complementary therapies; play groups; self esteem and confidence building and basic skills and education. The service will be easy to access, offer a rapid response and be flexible in its delivery. It will also be holistic - combining various approaches including social work, psychoanalytic and skills oriented approaches and complementary therapies - to meet the broad and complex needs of the family.
