Alone in London would like to provide a two pronged project. It will combine a direct front-line service that will provide support to families and parents and a second tier service to provide structures for strengthening the network of voluntary and community services working with parents and families in Greenwich, Southwark and Hackney and highlight and promote good practice in this field.

The project will be delivered through the following posts who will also provide supervision for specific volunteer roles for the project:

Family and Parent Support Officer (two posts). The aim of the posts will be to use Family Mediation to decrease family conflict and assist families to reconcile, with the ultimate goal of reducing youth homelessness. Our team of mediators are experienced at engaging and supporting parents/carers, siblings and extended family networks to achieve outcomes suitable for both the young person and the wider family. the role of the Family and Parent Support Officer would involve:

  • Providing opportunities for families to spend time working on practical solutions to their problems.
  • Building parental confidence and skill including younger parents.
  • Assisting constructive change.
  • Producing practical frameworks for parents/families to assess their own progress.
  • Bringing support to parents and families and perspective to difficult family issues.

Supportive Relations' Development Officer (two posts). Supportive relations is an existing project with an aim to: offer a range of services to support organisations that prevent and reduce social exclusion in vulnerable young people across the UK.

This funding will allow us to expand our service to work with organisations wishing to support families and parents. Our main objectives will be:

  • to develop a self sustaining service that builds on our reputation for providing advice, information and training on mediating with young people and their families and providing parental support.
  • to lead in the development of branded tools and resources aimed at service provision.
