We work with separated parents in South Tyneside to reduce conflict between parents and strengthen cooperative parenting. This work includes enabling parents to focus on their children's lives and encouraging fathers to be confident in their role as a separated parent.

We are using our Parenting Fund grant to:

  • Provide individual support and coaching to separated parents in their parenting role
  • Running 'Being the best Dad I can be' group sessions for fathers
  • Offering a positive parental relationship programme for parents
  • Providing workshops, seminars and good practice guides for statutory and voluntary services working with families in South Tyneside
  • Running the Action for Change Domestic Violence Perpetrator Program: This is a domestic violence perpetrator group work programme for perpetrators who do not reach the charged or convicted stage. People come to it via self referral or are referred by the Police, CAFCASS and other agencies. Using motivational interactions and action planning the programme aims to change behaviours. It lasts for 24 weeks (the average length of time a family usually attends the child contact centre).
