Tamba is a national parent support charity offering support services to families and careers of twins, triplets and more. We provide a quarterly magazine and a range of other services including a helpline operated by experienced volunteers. We were established in 1978.
We will use Parenting Fund grant to develop our unique services for parents bringing up twins, triplets, quads or more. Recent statistics show that the twinning rate has increased by 50% in the last 20 years and one in seventy pregnancies is now multiple. These parents face a combination of emotional, practical and financial pressures that lead to unique parenting challenges. Fathers take a greater part in the parenting of multiple birth children and this project will support them in a number of innovative ways.
The grant will enable our well-established helpline, Tamba Twinline, to remain open for longer during the day. The hours of the helpline co-ordinator are being increased and we are investing in training for the staff and volunteers who run it.
In addition, we are developing a parenting course specifically designed for parents of multiples. The 'Parenting with Multiples in Mind' courses will build on earlier focus group work and other consultations to develop a course relevant to those parenting, or preparing to parent, two or more children of the same age. We are also using the grant to produce a video for use on the course. Project staff will be funded to undertake the OCN accredited Core Curriculum 'Working with Parents' course. A Tamba Parenting Bulletin will be launched for people working in parenting.
