Established in 1993, The National Pyramid Trust is a charity that helps primary school children fulfil their potential by building their emotional and social competence and sense of well-being. Our approach identifies quiet, withdrawn and often-friendless children who are experiencing difficulty at an important time in their development. These children become members of Pyramid Clubs. These are groups designed to build friendships, confidence and an understanding of themselves and others. We set up the clubs usually by working with partners usually from health, education, social services or other voluntary agencies.
Over the last two years, a pilot of Parent Support Groups run in parallel with Pyramid Clubs has shown additional benefits for children and parents.
Using the Parenting Fund grant we have appointed a full time Parent Support Group Manager to develop 8 Parent Support Schemes running in parallel with Pyramid Schemes.
Parents of Pyramid Club children will be invited to the Parent Support Groups. These will run at the same time as the children's clubs. Although the content of the groups are adapted to the individual needs of the parents they are likely to cover:
- links between the Pyramid Club and the Parenting Group
- communicating with children and young people
- remembering how it feels to be a child
- the importance of self confidence and friendships
- the importance of listening
- how to set boundaries and how to deal with feelings.
