Stepping Stones supports children, young people and carers in Birmingham through a variety of projects over four sites. These include Pre-Schools, a Women's Group, Parenting Courses, work with 9-13 year olds who are disconnected from school, intense family support and work with children with emotional and behavioural difficulties. Stepping Stones is a charity set up in 1995.
We are using our Parenting Fund grant to work with parents in east and north Birmingham where there are children and young people (aged 5-16) with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
Stepping Stones is able to fill a service gap by working in families with children as old as sixteen as many services finish when they reach thirteen. This means that we provide support for parents and carers at what can be a very difficult and emotionally intense period for young people. Many parents find they need emotional support in coming to terms with a condition they do not fully understand.
Our interventions are flexible and tailored to suit the difficulties the child is experiencing as well as meeting the parents' or carers' needs. This means that we can find ourselves responding to anything in the range from everyday behaviour and age related problems through to mental health disorders.
Stepping Stones offers one to one support and group work. We also work in partnership with other services the children or young people may be receiving to increase the impact of joint work. Our services include practical help, parenting education, providing information on emotional and behavioural difficulties and offering emotional support to parents and carers.
