Speke Garston Domestic Violence Project Ltd (SGDVP) is a charitable organisation run by women to support women experiencing domestic abuse. We believe that women and children have the right to live lives that are free from violence and abuse. We provide easily accessible, free and confidential services for women in a range of community venues. We were set up in 1996.
Using the Parenting Fund Funding we can increase our direct support to mothers who have experienced domestic abuse through:
- one to one emotional and practical support
- advocacy
- one to one and group counselling
- self-help and personal development groups with workshops and courses focusing on parenting skills, self-esteem, assertiveness, anger management and healthy eating on a budget etc
- recruiting local women and survivors of domestic violence as volunteers whowill receive accredited training, work experience and support.
- offering awareness training on the impact abuse has on women and children
- up to date literature/information on services
- placement opportunities for social work and other students
- introducing service users to local community groups
- providing good practice guidelines to individuals, parents and local organisations.
We will work closely with Sure Start Speke, Barnardo's and other local organisations in our work.
