Title Peer mentoring for rehabilitation from domestic violence

Funding round 2

» Back to Case studies

Jean had no family support as she was not from our area and had never had a good relationship with her family anyway.

Jean had suffered domestic violence and had been placed in a women's Refuge here in the North East. She was understandably feeling very lonely and vulnerable.

I was able to place a volunteer with Jean who had been in similar circumstances three years earlier. Eleanor could relate completely to how Jean was feeling.

With Eleanor's help and support, Jean slowly began to find her feet. Eleanor showed her round the area and located toddler groups for them to take baby to. She was invaluable when it was time for Jean to move house. She encouraged Jean throughout this traumatic period of her life and was a friendly face in a confused world. Jean is now working and her son and daughter are much happier now that mum is settled and happy.
