The Fundholder Role

The Family and Parenting Institute (FPI) was chosen as the Fundholder by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES, now DFCS) following a competitive tender process. The FPI has overall management of the Parenting Fund and has sub-contracted PricewaterhouseCoopers to manage many of the administrative processes such as application assessment.

As fundholder, the FPI is responsible for strategic development, promotion and management of the Fund, knowledge sharing and dissemination of outcomes and learning.

FPI developed aims and criteria for the Fund in consultation with DfES (Department for Education and Skills), for key organisations in the sector and in the light of the responses to the Parenting Fund Consultation document produced by the Treasury in 2003.

In its role as fundholder, the FPI:

  1. Works directly with funded organisations to promote and publicise activities supported by the fund.
  2. Facilitates the exchange of information and good practice between funded organisations.
  3. Coordinates infrastructure developments within the voluntary sector on the development work arising from the Parenting Fund.
  4. Reports to the DFCS on the use of the Parenting Fund.

The Parenting Fund team:

  • runs workshops for funded organisations and others working in parenting support services in each of the areas. We are doing this in partnership with Parenting UK
  • pulls together a group from the organisations funded to do strategic work to explore the concrete developments needed to strengthen the infrastructure of parenting support services
  • develops and uses this website as a tool for funded organisations and others interested in the work of the Parenting Fund
  • provides direct support to funded projects
  • publicises the work and achievements of the Parenting Fund.
